Esther Ralston

Biography

American actress of silent screen note. She grew up in a Vaudeville family and made her screen debut in 1916. Ten years later the stunning blond beauty starred in a film named "The American Venus" and she became synonymous with the title.She retired from film in 1941. A divorce caused her great financial hardship and she reportedly worked as a saleswoman in a store but would deny her identity if customers recognized her. She did some radio and theater work and in the early 1960s appeared in a TV soap opera. In 1985 she wrote her autobiography "Some Day We'll Laugh."

She died January 14, 1994 in Ventura, CA, age 91.
