Biography

French daughter of serial killer Henri Désiré Landru (1869-1922) who murdered at least seven women in the village of Gambais between December 1915 and January 1919. To varying degrees, Marie Henriette, her mother, Marie-Catherine, and her three siblings were all complicit in shielding him from the police during World War I and in abetting his thefts from the missing women.

Marie Henriette, the Landrus' first child, was born illegitimate. Her parents married on 7 October 1893 when she was aged two.

Marie Henriette disclaimed any knowledge of her father's activities during the war, even though in August 1917 she had bid unsuccessfully at a property auction in Gambais on his behalf for a house in which he was interested.

Marie Henriette, her mother and three siblings were never charged in relation to Henri Désiré Landru's crimes. He was sent to the guillotine on 25 February 1922 in Versailles, France.

On 11 April 1924 she reverted to her mother's maiden name Rémy. She married Raymond Jules Paul Lecomte on 4 January 1926 in Clichy-sur-Seine. She died on 28 December 1985 in Pierrefitte-sur-Seine at age 94.
