Biography

French son of serial killer Henri Désiré Landru (1869-1922) who murdered at least seven women in the village of Gambais between December 1915 and January 1919. To varying degrees, Charles, his mother, Marie-Catherine, and his three siblings were all complicit in shielding him from the police during World War I and in abetting his thefts from the missing women. Charles was the Landrus' youngest child.

Charles acted as his father's self-styled "apprentice" from 1914 to 1919, helping Landru to clear five of the women's apartments after they vanished. Two days after Landru's arrest, Charles also admitted assisting his father with unexplained "gardening work" at Landru's house in Vernouillet in early 1915, around the time that Jeanne and André Cuchet disappeared.

Charles, his mother and three siblings were never charged in relation to Henri Désiré Landru's crimes. He was sent to the guillotine on 25 February 1922 in Versailles, France.

On 22 May 1924 Charles reverted to his mother's maiden name Rémy. He married Giselle Augustine Adrienne Boisseau on 13 August 1938 in Clichy-sur-Seine. He died on 13 July 1980 in Vannes at age 80.
