Biography

Italian saint, known as Blessed Maria Corsini, beatified along with her husband in November 2001, the first time in church history that a man and his wife were given that honor together, as exemplars of the Christian life.

The daughter of a military man, she moved quite often when young. A product of Catholic schools, she was a volunteer Red Cross nurse during WWI, then became a professor and writer on education. An active member of Women's Catholic Action, she lived a debout life. She and her husband Luigi Beltrame Quatrrocchi opened their home to refugees during WWII. They had four children together, three of whom entered religious life. She died August 26, 1965 in Serravalle, Italy, age 81.
