Biography
Belgian author and historian. An accomplished historian and a Professor at Ghent 1886-1930, he was famed for over 30 books and some 300 articles. Pirenne's monumental "History of Belgium" was published in seven volumes, 1900-1932. As a national figure he was commemorated in street names and on stamps, partly for his opposition to the Nazis in WW I.
He died 10/24/1935.
