Biography

Swiss journalist and politician, became known through his diary about mysterious experiences and haunting in his home. He was an advocate active in Stans and represented the liberal policy. In 1844 he co-founded the "Nidwaldner weekly paper". Because of the phenomena in his house, he left Stans with his family in 1862 and sold the farmer house. Later,he went to Rome hoping to see the Pape. He died on 9 november 1865 disillusioned,impoverished.

His case was one of the fullest descriptions of poltergeist in 19th century, which had mainly begun on 15 august 1862. Still today there's no solution about the background in this case. The Joller Haunted House can be compared with the Scottish case Telfair/Mackie (1695)and with the "Calvados Case" in the Normandy (1867).
