Mohammed Reza Pahlavi

Biography

Iranian royalty, the Shah, an absolute monarch from 1941, formally crowned 1967. Hoping to build his kingdom into a modern superpower, supplying the world with 25% of its oil, through the '60s and early '70s, Iran's economy thrived, illiteracy fell and he imported Western technology. However in the long run, the improvements brought in by the Shah were too little and his reforms were not carried through. His country became torn by strife and insurrection in 1978 and he was driven out the following year by Islamic fundamentalists led by Ayatollah Khomeini. The ailing, 60-year-old Shah settled in Egypt in late March 1980, where President Anwar Sadat had given him sanctuary.

The Shah died at the end of July, 1980.

Source Notes

Church of Light quotes Drew. Dewey quotes Ebertin at 11:40 PM; Ebertin later stated that the data was not from an infallible source. Pahlavi's autobiography "Mission for my Country," 1960, gives the date on p.51 with no time given or inferred. Baird had 10:00 AM from Ziegler. Gunter Menzer gives a time of 2:30 AM LMT, stating that a biography hints that his twin sister was born three hours earlier. Another biography also says that his sister, Ashraf, was born first. One magazine account wrote that his siter was born at 11:30 PM, the day before the Shah was born. Bordoni wrote that an old astrology magazine gave the Shah's birth as 9:35 AM.
