Biography
French artist and painter who, along with Le Corbusier, formulated the principles of purism and published an art review 1920-25. He began to exhibit his work in Paris in 1908, became interested in cubism while rejecting the aspect of decorative abstraction. Ozenfant published his best known book, "Foundations of Modern Art," in 1928.
In 1938, he moved to the U.S. and founded the Ozenfant School of Fine Arts in New York City. He returned to France in 1955, and died 4/5/1966 in Cannes.
