American songwriter for the Motown label who co-wrote "Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler)" which became a #9 hit for Marvin Gaye in 1971. In the 1990s, it became popular for samples of "Inner City Blues" to be used on R&B and rap records, providing Nyx with royalty income. James Nyx Jr died on 16 July 1998, aged 84.
