Danish poet, novelist and essayist. He made his literary debut in 1966 with the poetry collection Digte. He was awarded the Nordic Council's Literature Prize in 2000 for the poetry collection' Drømmebroer ("Dream Bridges"). Although a Danish writer he has spent much of his life in the Mediterranean and this is said to have had an influence on his writing.
Sy Scholfield quotes from the Danish book "Døden fra Lübeck" (Dance of Death) by Henrik Nordbrandt (Gyldendal, 2002), p. 21: "Jeg blev født klokken ti minutter over otte om morgenen den 21. marts 1945 på Diakonissestiftelsen på Frederiksberg. Jeg har fået at vide, at det var en svær fødsel. Min mor var nær ved at dø. Jeg fik aldrig spurgt hende om, hvad der gik galt, før hun var rigtig død."
Translation: I was born at ten past eight in the morning of 21 March 1945 at Deaconess in Frederiksberg. I have been told that it was a difficult birth. My mother was about to die. I never asked her about what went wrong before she died.
