Source Notes
Sy Scholfield quotes him in "My Journey in Karate: The Sabaki Way" by Kancho Joko Ninomiya and Ed Zorensky (Frog Books, 2000), pp. 1+3: "I was born on January 27, 1954, in the small village of Hizuchi, in Yawatahama City on the island of Shikoku. ... If you had told my father on the night I was born that his new son would grow up to be an All-Japan National Champion, he probably would have laughed." A time of 9pm is speculative.
