Adolf Nill (with chimpanzees Cora and Joko, 1894)


German veterinarian who became director of the Stuttgart private zoo Nills Tiergarten in 1892 at age 31; his father Johannes Nill founded the zoo in 1871. The Tiergarten was not only a major popular attraction of the Württemberg capital, but also enjoyed national appreciation. In 1906 the zoo was closed for financial reasons. He died in Legau in the Allgäu region at the age of 84 on 26 January 1945.
