Biography
Russian royalty, the third son of Alexander I who gained the throne upon his father's death on 19 November 1825 (jul.) when his brother, the Grand Duke Konstantin refused the office. Czar Nikolai married Princess Charlotte of Prussia on 1 July 1817 (jul.) when she took the name of Aleksandra Feodorovna; they had three daughters and four sons.
He died died in St. Petersburg on 18 February 1855 (jul.).
