Biography
German writer and politician, a noted member of The Socialist Unity Party of Germany (German: Sozialistische Einheitspartei Deutschlands), often known in English as the East German Communist Party.
He wrote for Die Rote Fahne and was a correspondent in the Soviet Union in 1931-1932. He was a member of the Brandenburg State Parliament from 1950 to 1952. He worked as an editor and editor-in-chief of newspapers in Berlin and Potsdam.
He became a board member of the German Writers' Association and was its secretary from 1953 to 1955. From 1955 until his death he headed the main department for fine literature in the Ministry of Culture of the GDR.
Peter Nell died in Berlin on 27 November 1957 at the age of 50 after a serious illness.
