Biography
Japanese earthquake, 9.0 magnitude, the strongest to hit Japan in that country's recorded seismic history; it was the fifth most powerful in the world. The devastation caused by the earthquake become exponentially bigger when a 30-foot tsunami followed. The death toll is not known as of this writing but it is estimated to be at least 10,000. The tsunami wreaked havoc on Japan's nuclear power plants causing radiation leakage and significant problems for the country. Tens of thousands of people faced lack of food, heat and shelter in the wake of this earthquake/tsunami. The country's economy which had been in slow recovery was significantly and adversely affected as manufacturing plants and other companies were forced to shut down during the ensuing emergency situations.
