Biography

Historical earthquake in Turkey. Estimated magnitude: 6.9. Estimated minimum casualties: 60.

Note: There was a 5.6 magnitude pre-shock four months prior to this earthquake (13 May 1924 at 0153UT) which took 50 lives. The Catalog of the late Dr. Utsu indicated that there were as many as 200 deaths from either the main shock or a combination of these two seismic events.

Further note: The World Almanac of 1925 gave a total of 2,120 casualties and listed a date of 14 May 1924 (which this editor feels was a likely typo that should have read either 212 or 120).
