Biography
French engineer who had the idea of applying Bayesian calculations to maximize his chances of winning races by spreading risk just as he had done in his work in portfolio management. He was used to such calculations, as a specialist in estimating risks for insurance companies.
On 12 November 1958, he won the trifecta 35 times, winning 5 million francs. Unfortunately his system required a set amount of money higher than that authorized for a single punter.
Known as "Mr. X" in newspaper reports, he committed suicide, dying at 9:30am on 17 October 1975 in Saint-Cloud.
