Biography
Italian pediatrician, canonized as a saint of the Roman Catholic Church in 2004.
When she was pregnant with her fourth child, Molla refused both an abortion and a hysterectomy, despite knowing that continuing with the pregnancy could result in her own death, as it in fact did. On the morning of 21 April 1962, Holy Saturday of that year, Molla gave birth to a daughter, who was successfully delivered by Caesarean section. Molla died of septic peritonitis in Monza, Italy on the morning of 28 April 1962, aged 39, seven days after the birth.
