Biography

French film director, screenwriter, designer, and fiction writer, also noted as the daughter of Nobel laureate Patrick Modiano and Dominique Zehrfuss. Her first name was chosen as a tribute to Zenaïde 'Zina' Rachevsky, a Russian-French-American socialite, film actress, and Gelug Tibetan Buddhist nun.

Her films include En face (1999), Mille soleils (2005) and La Vie privée (2006). She published a children's book, Le Chien mythomane, in 2003.

Source Notes

Sy Scholfield quotes birth time, date and place from Family Record by Patrick Modiano (Yale University Press, 2019): "Paris" (p. 7), "The text, typed without a single error, specified that a child of female sex, named Zénaïde, was born at nine o'clock on the evening of October 22 of that year" (p. 11).

Year of birth from various reference works such as Encyclopedia of Arab Women Filmmakers by Rebecca Hillauer (American University in Cairo Press, 2005).

From her father on the Nobel Prize website: "Our first daughter Zina was born on 22 October 1974" [1].
