French writer, journalist, and diplomat. His name is associated with the Prix Pierre Mille (prize for journalism), awarded by the Union of the French press (le Syndicat de la presse française) for the best journalism in the print or audiovisual French media. Pierre Mille is the father of the radio journalist Clara Candiani. He died on 13 January 1941 in Paris.
Sy Scholfield quotes "The Life and Works of Pierre Mille" by William Jewett Everts (Columbia University, 1938), p. 72: "Mille says that the idea of his bluff occurred to him when he realized one day that the hour of his birth, five thirty in the morning, corresponded exactly with the first passing of the Birhans stage coach."
