Biography

American adoptee and kidnap victim. She was born to Sue Ping Chen but placed with a foster mother Laura Hong. Hong was granted custody of the child by court order in March 1995. In June 1997, she was granted legal custody of the child and the birth mother's rights to custody were terminated.

However, the birth mother allegedly kidnapped the child on October 15, 1996 and took Mei Mei to Canton, China. The adoptive parent, Laura Hong, charges that the birth mother suffers from mental illness and the court system evidently agrees. Although the US government under President Clinton tried to intervene the child has not been returned to the custodial parent in the US.
