Biography
Scottish ecclesiastic who, as a Presbyterian clergyman, served as the pastor to the U.S. Senate from 1947-1948. In 1927, he immigrated to the U.S., graduating from Columbia University only four years after his arrival, in 1931. As a clergyman, he served three pastorates in his lifetime, the last being in 1937 at a New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. He also was a striking speaker and widely quoted, as well as being the subject of a biography entitled "A Man Called Peter." The biography of Marshall would eventually be made into a movie.
Prior to a markedly successful life, he lived a very poor childhood in which his father died when he was only four years old.
Marshall died on 1/25/1949, Washington, DC.
