Archduchess of Austria (1748) Maria Karolina (Extract from a portrait by Martin van Meytens)

Biography

Austrian Archduchess, the ninth child and daughter of Maria Theresa of Austria, Queen of Hungary and Bohemia, and Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor. At birth she showed alarming signs and it was decided she must be baptized hurriedly; she was named Maria Carolina, in memory of her older deceased sister. The little Archduchess died the same night.
