Biography

Spanish clergyman, rector of the Archpriestal Church of San Pedro and San Pablo de Ademuz (1903-1936), then belonging to the diocese of Segorbe (Castellón), who was murdered in the first year of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).

He was one of the 4,184 priests murdered as part of religious persecution unleashed in Spain against the Catholic Church.

Sy Scholfield cites birth record quoted in Del Paisaje, alma del Rincón de Ademuz: En el VIIIº Centenario de la Conquista Cristiana (1210-2010) by Alfredo Sánchez Garzón (Valencia, 2008), p. 42: "Fue de esta forma como logré dar con su <partida de bautismo>, donde se dice que don Blas Mañes Palomar nació el día 4 de febrero de 1869 a las 3: 00 horas de la mañana, siendo hijo legítimo de Manuel Mañes y de María Palomar, ambos naturales de Barracas (Castellón) y vecinos de Alcublas."

(It was in this way that I managed to find his baptism, where it is said that Don Blas Mañes Palomar was born on 4 February 1869 at 3:00 a.m., being the legitimate son of Manuel Mañes and María Palomar, both natural of Barracas (Castellón) and neighbours of Alcublas).
