French princess, noblewoman, the wife of two Polish kings, Władysław IV Vasa and John II Casimir, and as such queen of Poland. She was born to Charles I, Duke of Mantua, and Catherine of Guise.
An active and energetic woman, she was a strong supporter of an autocratic monarchy for which she was disliked by the highly democratic Polish court and zealous Polish nobility, however, she managed to stay involved in the Commonwealth's politics which led to the foundation of the first Polish newspaper as well as other public institutions.
Together with Queen Bona Sforza of Milan she is regarded as one of the most influential and most powerful Queen consorts of the Kingdom of Poland and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
She died 10 May 1667.
PTA quotes Jean Baptiste Morin (1583-1656) in the 22nd volume Astrology Gallica , giving the exact date (August 18, 1611) and time of birth (19:51 solar time) and place (Nevers, Latin. Niversii ). Given the fact that the solar time counted if not from the north but from the local noon, it was, therefore, 19 hours and 51 minutes after the local afternoon, or in the contemporary reckoning it was already the next day, August 19, 1611 hours. 7:54 LMT. Therefore horoscope queen should count on 19 August, although in many biographies and encyclopedias given date is 18 August.
