Juan Antonio Llorente (by Francisco Goya, 1809-1813)


Spanish historian. His great work, Histoire critique de l'Inquisition espagnole [Critical History of the Spanish Inquisition] (Paris, 1817-1818), was translated into English, German, Dutch and Italian. It attracted much attention in Europe and involved its author in considerable persecution. He died on February 5, 1823 in Madrid.
