Anne Morrow Lindbergh

American author, aviator, and the wife of the most celebrated hero of the day, aviator Charles Lindbergh. The daughter of a U.S. Ambassador, she met Lindbergh on a family Christmas trip to Mexico. They married in 1929. She became a pilot and went with him on survey trips to Asia and Europe. They set a new trans-continental record in 1930 and she was the first American woman to hold a glider pilot's license.

Lindbergh has written a dozen books including the 1955 bestseller "Gift From the Sea."

They had six kids. On 1 March 1932, their first son was kidnapped from his crib. The famous event received a great deal of publicity and caused emotional trauma and grief; the baby's body was found later.

At the age of 94, famed writer and aviator (and wife of pioneering aviator Charles Lindbergh) Anne Morrow Lindbergh, died in her Montpelier, Vt., home on 7 February 2001.
