Source Notes

Starkman quotes the Canadian astrologer Bjorkstrand quoting The Life of Margaret Laurence by James King (Knopf Canada, 2012), p. 14: "It was to these two people that Margaret Laurence was born on July 28, 1926 at Nepawa General Hospital at 7:30 on a Sunday evening."

Sy Scholfield quotes a different time of 7:30 AM from her autobiography, Dance on the Earth: A Memoir by Margaret Laurence (McClelland & Stewart, 1989), p. 34: "I was born on July 18, 1926, at the Neepawa General Hospital, at 7:30 a.m. on a Sunday. My mother must have felt, as I did when I had my own children, the truly miraculous nature of birth. A new human being. What an astounding process it is."

Both books cite her mother's baby book.
