Biography
American actor in over 500 TV episodes and also a familiar figure in movies, he won the Oscar as Best Supporting Actor for the role of Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood (1994).
His career began in the 1950s, with early film appearances including a supporting role in Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest (1959) opposite Cary Grant. He played regular roles in the television series Mission: Impossible (1966-1969) and Space: 1999 (1975-1977), co-starring with his wife, Barbara Bain.
Landau married Bain on 31 January 1957, and they divorced in 1993. They had two daughters, Susan and Juliet. Single in his 60s, Landau was dating actress-veterinarian Bretchen Becker, aged 29.
On 15 July 2017, Landau died at the age of 89 at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, California. He had been briefly hospitalized. The cause of death was hypovolemic shock brought on by internal bleeding and heart disease.
