French criminal, sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a child.
He was the oldest inmate in France before being released on 3 October 2005 after 41 years imprisonment, which is one of the longest detentions in Europe.
He was nicknamed 'L'étrangleur' (the strangler) because of the signature 'L'étrangleur no 1' (The No. 1 Strangler) located on the bottom of anonymous letters sent to police.
Lucien Léger died at his home in Laon in early July 2008, his body not having been discovered until 18 July.
