German nobleman and army General, known as "Citoyen Hesse," who supported the French Revolution.
He was a brother of Karl Emanuel, Landgrave of Hesse-Rotenburg.
He died on 19 May 1821, aged 69, in Frankfurt am Main.

Heeden morgen ten 4 uuren is de Vorftinne, voormaals Weduwe van den Prins Hyacinth van Naffau Sitgen, en thans Gemaalin van onzen Souverain, den regeerenden Land Graaf van Heffen Rhynfels en Rhotemburg, zeer gelukkig van een vierden Prins bevallen."
