Biography
American film-maker with a Czech-German-French-Irish background. After attending Columbia, he did undergraduate work in Paris then New York University film school. His directorial debut of "Permanent Vacation," 1981, was promising but awkward and he had a greater success with his next feature, "Stranger Than Paradise," 1984, a prize-winner at Cannes film festival. Jarmusch writes his own scripts and does a small amount of acting in films by other directors.
