Biography

American lead singer of heavy metal bands Huntress (2009-2015), The Starbreakers and Chelsea Girls; she was also known as Penelope Tuesdae. Janus had a four octave vocal range as a coloratura soprano.

In 2015, Janus disclosed to Revolver that she was living with bipolar disorder since her early teens. She was diagnosed with manic depression at age 20, then later diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. Later in her life, she was experiencing dissociative identity disorder and schizophrenia. That same year, Janus underwent a hysterectomy after she was diagnosed with uterine cancer. On 14 August 2018, Janus died by suicide near Portland, Oregon at age 42.

Sy Scholfield quotes an official Huntress Tweet to Janus stating "Happy Birthday to Our Huntress @JillJanus born upon this day, the 2nd of September! Sun in VIRGO. Moon in Cancer. Ascendant in Sagittarius" [1] to which Janus replied "Thank you for the birthday wishes, Creatures xx" [2]; and "Fact Friday: Jill Janus was born in Cooperstown NY, home to the Baseball Hall of Fame!" [3]. In a 17-Sep-2015 interview Janus states, "I just celebrated my 40th birthday on September 2" [4]. A time of 3pm is speculative.
