Biography

German Benedictine monk and priest, mystic, and Zen master, who trained and taught in the Sanbo Kyodan tradition. His Zen name is Kyo-un Rōshi.

Upon the initiative of a papal commission under direction of the later pope Ratzinger, he was, in January 2002, forbidden by the Würzburg bishop from further teaching in public.

In Germany, he founded the Benediktushof, an inter-religious centre of meditation and awareness, in 2003.

He wrote the books Contemplation: A Christian Path (1994) and Search for the Meaning of Life: Essays and Reflections on the Mystical Experience (2003).

He died in Holzkirchen on 20 March 2020 at age 95.
