Biography

Dutch psychiatrist, lecturer and author.

Van der Hoop became a physician on 24-06-1913 in Leiden University. On 11 April 1924 he became a Doctor with the dissertation "Een geval van schizophrenie: psycho-pathologische studie" (a case of schizophrenia: psycho-pathological study) in Leiden. He underwent analysis with Carl Gustav Jung and Ruth Mack Brunswick.

From 3 December 1928 - 17 May 1950 he was a private lecturer Neurotic disorder in the University of Amsterdam (UvA). His first lesson was held on 14 February 1929 and had the tittle Arts en zenuwpatiënt (Doctor and psychiatric patient).

From 17 May 1950 till his early dead he was lecturer Medical Psychology in Amsterdam.

He was a co-founder and president of the Dutch Association for Psychotherapy.

He wrote books for a greater audience: Sexualiteit en zieleleven (1926) and Zielkunde en de zin van ons leven (1933).

He died 11 October 1950.
