Biography
French architectural disaster that occurred when a fire broke out in three parts of the Cathedral of Saint Pierre and Saint Paul (Cathédrale Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul), a Roman Catholic Gothic "monument historique" in Nantes, in the early hours of 18 July 2020.
The fire was concentrated on the organ at the West end of the cathedral. The organ and a masterpiece by painter Hippolyte Flandrin were completely destroyed. The fire was contained at 10:00 AM.
A Rwandan national suspected of possible arson was taken into custody and freed on 19 July, and arrested again on 25 July. The suspect who volunteered at the cathedral admitted that he was responsible for the fire.
