Biography
Norwegian actor, theatre manager, and stage instructor who began his career as an actor in Stavanger and Trondheim. He was theatre manager of Det norske teatret 1936-1942 and 1945-1946. During WW II he had to flee to Sweden where he together with Hans Jacob Nilsen established a theatre company that toured Sweden performing Norwegian plays.
After the war he was manager of Nationaltheatret (the National Theatre), from 1946 to 1959, during which time he also worked as a stage instructor. He continued working as a stage instructor until he retired in 1970. He was married to actress Eleonore "Nora" Sæthre.
Hergel died on 2 September 1982 in Oslo, Norway. He was 82.
