Sy Scholfield quotes "Piccadilly Bookman: Memorials of the House of Hatchard" by Arthur Lee Humphreys (Hatchards, 1893), p. 5: "The memorandum referred to, the first part of which is written in a youthful hand, and probably at an earlier period than the last, is as follows : — 'John Hatchard was born between twelve and one o'clock in the morning, October the 17th, 1768.'"
