Jules de Goncourt

Biography

French writer, who published books together with his brother Edmond. Both French naturalism writers, as collaborative sibling authors, they were inseparable in life. They are known for their literary work and for their diaries, which offer an intimate view into the French literary society of the later 19th century. They also published six novels.

Jules died in Paris on 20 June 1870, at the age of 39, at Auteuil-Neuilly-Passy of a stroke brought on by syphilis.
