Biography

German noted family member, a daughter of German writer and statesman Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and his companion Christiane Vulpius. Carolina was one of their four children who lived only a few days each. Only her brother August von Goethe lived to adulthood. She died on 3 December 1793, aged 12 days.

Amts Archivari allhir Herrn Johann Friedrich Vulpius nachgelassenen eheleibliche einzige Tochter erster Ehe, Johannen Christianen Sophien Vulpius Töchterlein, ist gebohren Donnerstags als den 21ten Novembr. a.c. früh 6 Uhr, und gedachten Tages abends 5 Uhr, von dem Herrn Collaborator Harseim im Hause getauft worden. Erhielt in der heiligen Taufe den Namen: Carolina."

Abridged translation: Note no. 41 in the parish church register, 1787-1797 reads: ... born on Thursday the 21st November early at 6 o'clock, and in the evening at 5 o'clock baptized with the name: Carolina.
