German landscape artist known for his oil paintings, and sketches and studies, most executed in pencil or ink.

At the age of 36, Wilhelm Gattinger, deafened at a young age, went to Mettlach as an earthenware painter. From 1914 he worked as a teacher at the painting school of Villeroy & Boch.

He died on 20 November 1927 in Mettlach, aged 66.
