Biography
German administrative lawyer, musicologist and art historian, who published works on Giorgio Vasaris, Ruggiero Giovannelli and Michelagniolo Buonarotti.
He joined the NSDAP (Nazi Party) in 1930 and the SA in 1933. In addition, he became a member of the German Christians. Frey was a lecturer in the ministry of science of the Reich Ministry of Education from 1935 to 1945, where he was able to influence numerous academic careers. Within the ministry, he supervised subjects including music and theater studies, pre- and early history, Oriental studies and art history as well as Protestant and Catholic theology.
After the war Frey was interned from August 1945 to November 1946 in the American camp Altenstadt in Schongau in Bavaria.
Frey died on 28 April 1968 in Freiburg im Breisgau, aged 80. He was the father of the prehistorian Otto-Herman Frey.
