Saint Francis of Sales


French saint as he embodied the ideal of spiritual perfection, obedient and truthful, devoted to God. A Roman Catholic priest ordained on 18 December 1593, he became Bishop of Geneva. Saint Francis of Sales' "Introduction to the Divine Life" is considered his masterpiece and he is the patron saint of journalists.

He died 28 December 1622, Lyon, France, was beatified in 1662 and canonized in 1665.

On 5 August 2014 Sy Scholfield changed the time to 9:30pm quoting "Helvetia sancta, oder Leben und Wirken der heiligen, seligen und frommen Personen Schweizerlandes, aus den bewährtesten Quellen gesammelt und herausgegeben von P. Laurenz Burgener" [Helvetia sancta, or life and work of the Holy, blessed and pious people of Switzerland, collected from the most reliable sources and published by P. Laurenz Burgener](Benziger, 1862), p. 171: "Dieses geschah den 21. August 1567 auf dem Schlosse Thorens, an einem Donnerstag Abends zwischen 9 und 10 Uhr. Der Geborne wurde am Tage daraus aus der Taufe gehoben und erhielt in derselben die Namen Franz Bonaventura..."

Translation: This happened on 21 August 1567 at the castle Thorens, on a Thursday evening between 9 and 10 o'clock. The baby was baptized with the names Franz Bonaventura.
