Prince of Joinville François d'Orléans (1852)

Biography

French admiral of the French Navy, a talented artist, and prince of Joinville as the third son of Louis Philippe, Duke of Orléans, afterwards king of the French and his wife Marie Amalie of Bourbon-Sicilies.

On 1 May 1843 in Rio de Janeiro, he married Princess Francisca of Brazil, Princess de Bragança, sister of Pedro II of Brazil. They had three children.

He died on 16 June 1900, aged 81, in Paris, France.

Sy Scholfield forwarded news report from "Nederlandsche staatscourant," 20 August 1818, p. 2: "Parys, den 14 Augustus. Heden, ten een ure en veertig minuten nadenmiddag, is H. K. H. de hertogin van Orleans, op het kasteel van Neuilly, van een zoon bevallen, die, volgeus de bevelen des Konings, de namen van Francois-Ferdinand-Philippe-Louis-Marie, en den titel van prins van Joinville voeren zal."

(Paris, 14 August: Today, at one-forty in the afternoon, HRH the duchess of Orleans, at the Château de Neuilly, gave birth to a son who, according to the King's orders, will be named Francois-Ferdinand-Philippe-Louis-Marie, and will carry the title of Prince of Joinville).

The birth certificate could not be found in the Neuilly sur Seine registry book at the online Hauts-de-Seine departmental archives.
