King of Spain Felipe III

Biography

King of Spain from 13 September 1598 to 31 March 1621, known as Philip the Pious. He was the son of King Felipe II of Spain and his fourth wife and niece Anna, the daughter of the Emperor Maximilian II and Maria of Spain. Philip III later married Margaret of Austria, sister of his cousin Ferdinand II, Holy Roman Emperor. Their eight children included Anne, Queen of Spain (1601-1666), Felipe IV, King of Spain (1605-1665) and Maria Anna, Empress of the Holy Roman Empire (1606–1646). Felipe III died on 31 March 1621, succeeded by his son, Felipe IV.
