Biography
American politician with a liberal-to-moderate voting record when he served in the Illinois legislature. A Jewish millionaire, he was Chicago's unlikely great white hope in the racially biased mayoral race of 1983, won by Harold Washington. The impassioned contest made great note of his two hospitalizations for psychiatric testing, 1968 and 1974.
