Biography
American writer, diplomat, and military historian from a noted family, as the second son of Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower. He went to West Point Military Academy and served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War, ending his military career in 1975 as a decorated brigadier-general. In the administration of President Richard Nixon (his father’s vice-president), he served as United States Ambassador to Belgium from 1969 to 1971.
Eisenhower wrote several books, including The Bitter Woods, a study of the Battle of the Bulge, and So Far from God, a history of the Mexican–American War.
Eisenhower married Barbara Jean Thompson on 10 June 1947. The Eisenhowers had four children. The couple divorced in 1986 after thirty-nine years of marriage. In 1988, Eisenhower married Joanne Thompson.
