Biography
Haitian dictator from 1957, known as "Papa Doc." A physician, he practiced medicine for ten years before he entered politics. In 1957 he was elected President and seven years later declared his post to be a lifetime appointment. His regime was corruption-ridden, terroristic and authoritarian.
When he died in office at Port-Au-Prince, Haiti on 4/21/1971, he was succeeded by his 19-year-old son. (Jean-Claude Duvalier was born 7/03/1951, Port-au-Prince, Haiti.)
