Pierre Dupont

French song-writer although he had no theoretical knowledge of music. He composed both the words and the melodies of his songs, the two processes being generally simultaneous.

He worked at the redaction of Dictionnaire de l'Académie française from 1842 till 1847.

A republican, he sang his own songs at the concerts for workmen. The performance of his famous: Le pain was forbidden. His participation on the barricades of Faubourg Saint-Antoine (with the resistance comity) and Le Chant des paysans, hostile to the future Napoléon III, led to his deportation and in 1851 he was condemned to seven years of exile from France.
