English antiquary and herald. As a scholar he was influential in the development of medieval history as an academic subject. Died 10 February 1686.
Sy Scholfield quotes "A History of English Literature" by William Robertson Nicoll and Thomas Seccombe (Dodd, Mead, 1907), p. 544: "He was born, says [the astrologer] Aubrey, at 3.15 pm, on September 12, 1605."
